Plans to build a new state-of-the-art football pitch near Kenilworth have been revealed.
A 3G artificial pitch could be built at Coventry University's sports complex in Westwood Heath - near the University of Warwick.
If approved, it will replace a grass sports field which gets waterlogged in winter causing problems for local teams.
The synthetic material of the 3G pitch will be more resilient and need less maintenance close to the season, according to Surfacing Standards.
Six new "slimline" floodlights controlled by timers will be installed around the playing area so matches can take place in the evenings.
The facility will also get a new perimeter fence, equipment store and grandstand for 75 people.
The pitch's planning application says it will help fulfil demand for training and football in the local area.
As well as the university, other groups in Coventry will also have access to the pitch.
The application states: "The facility will support several inclusive organisations who provide strong and sustainable education placements for providing children and young people, in addition to a number of organisations who support those with a disability.
"A Community Use Agreement with key partners will be established and managed on a formal basis."
It adds: "The proposal will provide a much-needed facility which would enable sport to be played throughout the year.
"During the holidays, increased (daytime) community use will be available subject to sufficient demand to justify opening the facility."
Plans for the pitch were sent to Coventry City Council for permission last month.
A public consultation is open until November 23 and the council's decision is expected to be made by late December.
