A draft agreement for how the new Kenilworth School will be used by the local community has been revealed.

When planning permission for the new Glasshouse Lane site was approved in 2019, Warwick District Council (WDC) made it a condition that the facility must still be available for groups to use, as the current Leyes Lane site is.

And with the school set to open its doors for the first time this September, a draft community use agreement between WDC and Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust (KMAT) has been put together.

"The parties agree to pursue the following aims," it says.

"Providing opportunities for the local community and sports organisations to participate in sport and physical activity for health improvement and development of their skills, particularly amongst low participant groups."

Among the priorities for the new school, the draft says, is "generating positive attitudes in sport and physical activity by young people and reducing the dropout rate in sports participation with age".

This as well as "to provide affordable access to the facilities and to be self-financing in terms of community use".

If the agreement is approved by the council's planning department, it will see the school's two 3G pitches, two grass pitches and six outdoor courts made available to the public.

This as well as the sports hall, multi-use studio, changing rooms and potentially the gym.

The document also shows that hiring the sports hall could cost up to £64 per hour, meanwhile the whole 3G pitch would be available for up to £75 per hour.

"A policy of affordable pricing shall apply to maximise community use and in accordance

with the aims of this agreement," it adds.

"Prices shall be no greater than for similar local authority run facilities in Warwick district."

The agreement says a management committee will be formed to develop the use of the school for the community.

A local resident will join this community - although no reference is made as to how this person will be chosen.

Residents can see the full draft here.
