Plans for 12 'self build' housing plots in Kenilworth revealed

Plans for 12 'self-build' housing plots in Kenilworth have been put forward to the district council.

Persimmon Homes has submitted two applications - each for six plots - for the Kenilworth Gate development off Leamington Road.

The estate will eventually see 550 homes, a community centre, two primary schools and a major piece of employment land built - with the self build plots originally approved back in 2021 alongside the rest of the development.

However, with no detailed designs - called reserved matters - for the self builds put forward since then, that original planning permission has since lapsed, meaning approval must once again be granted.

"Given that the very nature of self-build units is that the details of what will be built will differ from the Persimmon and Charles Church range, the details of the self-build were not known at the time of reserved matters submission," the application explained.

"Therefore, to allow for the details to be agreed by the owner/s of each plot, we are submitting this outline application."

Plans show the plots will be to the west side of the estate near Thickthorn Close.

See the plans here and here.

The submissions come just weeks after Nub News reported the new community centre at Kenilworth gate may not be built until at least 2028.

Reserved matters applications for all the houses have now been approved.

But the council is still yet to decide on the designs for six new industrial units which could make up the employment zone.
