Locals have less than a year to wait until Kenilworth's new swimming pools could be finished.

Work on the new Abbey Fields remains ahead of schedule after work resumed again in March 2024.

Originally due to be finished in June 2026, a report presented to Kenilworth Town Council stated the build is 14 weeks ahead of schedule and there is a provisional completion date of 1 April 2026.

"Scheduled Monument Consent has now been submitted for the proposed schedule of works to install both the Water and Gas within the same trench, waiting for final approval," the update said.

Amended planning permission for the project was secured at the end of 2023, with some small changes to the design approved.

A new £22 million price for the Abbey Fields Leisure Centre project was agreed - a huge step up from the £8.5 million predicted in September 2021, and the £12.5 million contract signed the following year.

Before the major delays to the project, it had been predicted the new swimming pools would open in December 2022.
