Over £15 million has been spent on land around Kenilworth by HS2, a freedom of information (FOI) request has revealed.

The high speed rail developer has paid out £15,321,558.67 in compulsory land purchases around the CV8 postcode.

That means a further £3 million has been spent on land over the past 18 months - as the response to our request in the summer of 2022 revealed £12.5 million had been spent.

But all that money has only bought HS2 2.6 square kilometres of land, the FOI also revealed.

Nub News was told 69 individual land parcels received compulsory purchase orders (CPO) within the CV8 postcode area.

HS2 has recently been given the green light for its 750 metre cutting to the north of Kenilworth, and is moving towards a long-term closure of Dalehouse Lane to install a new bridge.

Landowners served a CPO by HS2 are usually given the "unblighted market value of the land" plus "other losses arising as a direct and reasonable consequence of the acquisition".

Meanwhile in the north west - where the HS2 line was due to reach before the latter phases were axed - some £600 million has been spent buying up land.

The Guardian also reported in October some £2.8 billion had been spent across phase one of the route - including the section through Warwickshire.
