Opening date for new Castle Farm Recreation Centre pushed back due to 'slight delays'
The opening date for Kenilworth's new leisure centre is set to be delayed, a report presented to the town council confirmed.
The new Castle Farm Recreation Centre was due to open in November 2023 but has now been pushed back a month, with work on site 60 per cent complete.
And the council has warned the completion date could be pushed back further as the project now hits week 53 of 70.
"Completion for the whole facility has hit some slight delays and is now scheduled for early December 2023," a report presented to Kenilworth Town Council said.
"The aim is still for the facility to open in December 2023, however this is dependant on no further delays being encountered."
The report did not say what has caused the project to be held up.
The roof at the new leisure centre is now complete, as are gas and electricity works.
Now contractors are focusing on finishing the car park, internal electrics and decoration.
Three trees have also had to be removed from the car park - but Warwick District Council said 12 new ones will be planted.
Speaking at last week's town council meeting, Cllr Andrew Milton said: "I think we should write to the district council to ask for reassurance that it will open in December.
"I am conscious that a lot of people tend to, post-Christmas, think 'I need to go to the gym', so it would be good to make sure the facility is available in the town then."
The new sports centre is set to include a sports hall, 80 station gym and fitness studios as well as a new base for local scouts and guides.
