The landlord behind a Kenilworth town centre pub is on the lookout for a new team to run the venue.

Pub giant Greene King has launched an advert calling on a new publican to take over at The Lion on Warwick Road.

Veronica Bennett, who has run the pub for six years, revealed earlier this year she and daughters Molly and Christine would be taking over The Gauntlet in Caesar Road and not extending their lease at The Lion.

"I have been at the Lion for six years, that is Green King. Our current contract runs out in February and the new contract they were offering just didn't suit us, so we started looking at other places," Veronica told Nub News in September.

"Then I contacted the people who run The Gauntlet. I had a few interviews and then they said I could go and take it over.

"We really didn't want to come out of Kenilworth.

"The people are so lovely here and have been so supportive. It is such a community area, if anyone can help you, they will help you. It is great."

And with the lease at The Lion due to end in February, Greene King is now looking for a new team to keep the venue running.

"The Lion at Kenilworth is a town centre pub which is surrounded by other shops and businesses," the website says.

"The site currently trades at 100% wet led but offers the potential to add a basic food offer.

"This opportunity would suit a single operator or couple who can build upon the pubs growing drinks trade.

"The Lion operates very much as a traditional pub, with sport on TV, regular entertainment, and live music.

"There is the potential here for capital development in the future to refurbish the pub once the right new partner has been identified."

Greene King charges £15,000 in rent annually and says £18,400 will need to be invested up front.

"I am looking for an operator who can see the potential of this great town centre pub and has the experience to add a great food offer," said Bruce Wakeling, business development manager

"It needs a USP such as best sausage rolls or burgers to complement its great range of beers."
