New planted areas will be unveiled across Kenilworth this week, as time runs out to save the plants in Talisman Square.

Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) and volunteer group Friends of Talisman Square (FoTS) have been working to relocate the greenery from the town centre car park, since landowner Cobalt Estates said the community garden must be removed.

Some plants have already been moved to Kenilworth School, but volunteers have until the end of the month to move the rest.

The town council has already agreed to help finance new planters in the town, with Kenilworth Lions among the other donors to the project.

A statement from KTC today (March 27) said several new planted areas will be created this week, with a combination of new planters and newly planted beds.

New planted areas will include in the Abbey End car park and at Abbey End Medical Centre.

Cllr Zoe Leventhal, one of the councillors who has been supporting the group said: "Thank you to the Friends of Talisman Square for their dedication to finding new homes for this garden - which has brought so much joy, nature and community to our town.

"We are very sad to see the planting go from Talisman Square but we are excited to see the new sites thrive.

"We are very grateful to all who have contributed in time, funding and space to make this possible in a very short time frame."

FoTS said the longer-term vision is to create a green urban corridor between Kenilworth Station and Warwick Road to welcome visitors and develop a biodiverse environment where both the community and nature will thrive.

Cllr Kate Dickson, who has also been supporting the group, added: "We'd like to thank Kenilworth Lions, B&M, Warwick District Council, the Abbey Medical Centre, Pomeroys, Steve Mckernan from Keller Williams Estate Agency and Paul Warren from MKM Building Supplies, WCC and Kenilworth School & Sixth Form, as well as all the volunteers from Friends of Talisman Square, for all their support to make this happen."

Having had planning permission to redevelop the Talisman Square car park refused last year, Cobalt Estates said it had be advised to remove the planting so the square could not be listed an Asset of Community Value - which would make future development more complicated.
