New pilates studio opens in Kenilworth town centre
A new reformer and equipment pilates studio has opened in Kenilworth, offering bespoke, private sessions for anybody looking to build strength, increase flexibility and to facilitate ease of movement in their body - not to mention the added bonus of toning up along the way!
Jules Cooper launched SALT + BEAR Pilates in Berkeley House, opposite the clock tower earlier this year, after years of experiencing restriction of movement in her own body.
Former primary school teacher, Jules, explained how she had experienced chronic pain and neuralgia in her face and neck caused by a TMJ disorder, which also affected the rest of her body including her pelvis, leaving her struggling to move around during and post pregnancies.
"Reformer and equipment pilates has been the game changer for me. I'd been constantly searching for an answer for years, I'd seen so many professionals and although I knew I needed dental treatment to realign my jaw, it wasn't until I discovered the specialist equipment that changes started to happen and the pain started to reduce significantly," she said.
"Now I feel stronger, much more stable and balanced within my body.
"My mission now is to help others in similar situations. I have gone from teaching children which I loved but this was something so important to me."
The sessions SALT + BEAR offer are bespoke to the individual client.
The first session focuses on assessing mobility and movement patterns before getting them started on the equipment.
Jules then plans a set of sessions tailored to their specific needs and goals.
Having already practised pilates for years, she decided in September 2020 to train as a fully comprehensive teacher with Polestar Pilates London on the whole range of pilates equipment, originally designed by Joseph Pilates.
"A lot of people assume 'equipment pilates' is solely the reformer but I also use the tower, pilates chair, ladder barrel and spine corrector as well as other pieces, creating endless possibilities for movement," she explained.
''In contrast to mat pilates, which requires your own body weight and small props, the specialist equipment used at the studio involves the use of ropes, pulleys, springs and pedals which act as a support system for the body whilst it moves against different levels of resistance, making this form of exercise suitable for all ages and abilities, whether it be to address lower back pain, challenge and prepare the body for optimal performance in sports, get fit again or to build strength and improve stability after having kids.''
She found the former office space at Berkeley House at the start of 2022 and has redesigned the interior to create the SALT + BEAR studio.
"So many people have said how calm the studio feels as you walk through the door," Jules added.
"It's not a high-tech modern studio - it's got character, with a beautiful, yet private, large bay window overlooking the clock tower, perfect for the private sessions I offer.
"I've had some lovely comments from clients - they are feeling amazing results, and when we were closed for the week recently they really felt a difference in their bodies and couldn't wait to return to keep up the progress."
Jules added: "It doesn't matter how old you are or what you have done before, just come as you are!
"Everyone is here for a different reason but ultimately it's all about getting stronger, healthier and more flexible in your body so you are able to do the things you can enjoy again without limitations''
