Plans for a new bridge that will carry a public footpath over the HS2 line in Kenilworth have been given the green light, nearly three years after the route was first diverted.

Works for the high speed rail line around Kenilworth Road saw bridleway W164 significantly rerouted in March 2022.

Originally HS2 said the new route would be installed in 2024, but plans for a new bridge as part of it have only just been signed off by Warwick District Council.

As with many HS2 applications, the local authority was only able to comment on certain design elements of the structure, but found no issues with the plans.

"Bridleway W164 Overbridge will be a three-span integral bridge comprising five precast pre-tensioned T-shaped beams with an in-situ reinforced concrete deck designed to act compositely with the beams," the application explained.

The bridleway connects to the Kenilworth Greenway at one end and heads through Diamond Wood and towards Coventry at the other.

The bridge will take the footpath over the line and the Crackley Wood embankment.

It will be 55.6 metres long and 3.5 metres wide.
