A 90-year-old Kenilworth fundraising hero was wished a happy birthday yesterday by the mayor as she collected donations for Myton Hospice.

Margaret Kite was presented with a gift and birthday card yesterday (November 29) by Cllr Sam Louden-Cooke while out raising money for the local charity.

Margaret, who has lived in Kenilworth her whole life, is well known in for her charitable exploits, having also raised money for the Poppy Appeal, Teenage Cancer Trust, and Kenilworth Guide Dogs to name but a few.

In 2019 she raised £25,000 for Myton Hospices, collecting on over 93 different occasions during the year.

Margaret was rewarded for her consistent philanthropy back in 2017 when she was awarded the British Empire Medal.

She even had a local guide dog 'Kite' named after her in 2018 in recognition for her dedicated service for Kenilworth Guide Dogs.

Yesterday's presentation was arranged by neighbour Alison Insley who also arranged a birthday celebration for the local philanthropist during the pandemic as Margaret was prevented from collecting for local causes.

In 2020 neighbours presented her with a sketch by artist Diane Shores showing her fundraising.
