The new Mayor of Kenilworth has presented a biodiversity award to a local primary school.

St John's Primary School last week received the Bee Friendly Kenilworth silver award from Cllr Alix Dearing.

The Mortimer Road school is the first in the town to receive the accolade.

Pupils have planted a flower and vegetable garden, created a wild area, made a bee hotel and played the Pollen Hunt Challenge.

Kenilworth was officially named a Bee Friendly Town in May 2022, recognising the groups and communities that have made a dedicated effort to protect pollinators in the area.

Bee Friendly Kenilworth has been working hard over the past three years to promote not just bees, but biodiversity in general.

The group was formed in spring 2020 by founding members Fern Arnold, Cllr Alix Dearing, Jo Harper and Cllr James Kennedy.
