Man charged with rape and strangulation after Stratford incident

A man from Coventry has been charged with rape and several other sexual offences.

Jowad Haji - and Iraqi national - was arrested by officers on Saturday afternoon (14 February) and last night, (Sunday) was charged with the rape of a woman aged 16 or over, the attempted rape of a woman aged 16 or over, sexual assault on a female and intentional strangulation.

The 24-year-old, of Park Street, Coventry, was remanded to appear at Coventry Magistrates' Court this morning (Monday).

It follows an incident at an unnamed shop on Chapel Street in Stratford on 31 January.

The incident was then reported to Warwickshire Police on 12 February.
