M42 lorry fire leads to six miles of queues

Motorists remain stuck in six miles of congestion on the M42 due to a lorry fire.

National Highways has closed the motorway southbound between J3A with the M40 and J3, Redditch.

There are currently 40 minute delays and the closure is expected to be in place for "several more hours".

Fire service and National Highways Traffic Officers remain on scene to dampen down the load of haybales which caught fire.

The National Highways website says: "The M42 in Warwickshire is closed southbound between J3A and J3 near Redditch due to a lorry fire.

"Emergency services are currently on scene."

Diversion Route:

  • At M42 at junction 3A, follow the link to M42, northbound.
  • Continue on M42, northbound, to M42 junction 4 (A34/A3400)
  • Exit M42 at junction 4 and take the 5th exit on to the M42 southbound.
  • Continue on M42 southbound to M42 junction 3A.
  • Exit M42 southbound at M42 junction 3A and follow link road to M40 southbound.
  •  Continue on M40 southbound to M40 junction 16.
  • Exit M40 at junction 16 and take the 2nd exit onto A3400 southbound.
  • Continue along the A3400 southbound to A3400/A4189 signalised junction.
  • At A3400/A4189 signalised junction, turn right onto A4189 westbound.
  • Continue on A4189 westbound to A4189/A435 roundabout junction.
  • At A4189/A435 roundabout junction, turn right (3rd exit) onto A435 northbound.
  • Continue on A435 northbound to A435/M42 junction 3.
  • At A435/M42 junction 3, turn left on to M42 southbound.
