By James Smith 2nd Apr 2026
The construction of Kenilworth's new swimming pools is in its "final stage," Warwick District Council (WDC) has confirmed.
Contractor Kier is due to remove the surrounding hoardings at Abbey Fields and begin work on the driveway to the new facilities.
Locals will get their first glimpse at the new facility which is expected to open in July.
The new leisure centre will have two indoor pools and a café with terrace for park users which is anticipated to open in July 2026.
The temporary toilets will be removed and the walkway around the duck feeding platform closed during the final stage of works.
As well a "small section" of the older children's playground including the climbing frame.
"This will enable landscaping, levelling and the creation of access paths to take place," the council said.
"Heras fencing will erected until this work is completed."
After lengthy delays, more planning applications and new contracts signed, work resumed in Abbey Fields in 2024.
Portfolio holder for safer, healthier and active communities, Cllr Jim Sinnott commented: "We are very pleased that these much anticipated and long-awaited new facilities are nearing completion and that the people of Kenilworth and the wider district will soon be getting the additional year-round pool space, which we know will be welcomed by families, schools and swimming clubs, as well as less confident swimmers and disabled users."
Changes to pedestrian access in and around the Abbey Fields Swimming Pool site will be in place from Tuesday 7 April until July's opening.
The junior playground and the remaining area of the older children's playground will stay open throughout, but all toilets will be closed.
Once the pools are opened, the WDC will confirm arrangements for the outstanding work including the tennis courts, duck feeding area and play area.
The council is yet to address major concerns around the parking in Abbey Fields.
Alex Fuoco-Lang, Everyone Active area contract manager added: "We're thrilled that Abbey Fields Swimming Pool is progressing well and remains on schedule to open to the public in July.
"We're thoroughly looking forward to showcasing the fantastic facilities that will be on offer for our local community and celebrating all the hard work that has gone into building the centre."
