Former Kenilworth School site officially sold
By James Smith 2nd Apr 2026
The former Kenilworth School site at Leyes Lane has officially been sold to Homes England, Warwick District Council (WDC) has confirmed.
The local authority announced the sale of the vacant site in a statement today (April 2) saying it marks an "important step in securing a sustainable future for the site".
The council has not confirmed how much the land has been sold for.
Homes England has already been given prior approval to demolish the buildings and is awaiting a WDC decision on a planning application to turn the land into 224 homes.
Cllr Jessica Melrose, portfolio holder for housing commented: "We know the Leyes Lane site is very important to the people of Kenilworth, and we are grateful to all residents who have shared their views, hopes, and concerns about local services, infrastructure, and the community's priorities.
"We will continue to work closely with Homes England to ensure residents' voices help shape the outcome as it comes through the planning process.
"Subject to planning permission, the site will provide much-needed new homes that support local families and the long-term well-being of the community.
"We will also continue to provide regular updates.''
WDC made it clear in its statement that the responsibility for the land and buildings has now transferred to Homes England.
Any future enquiries regarding the site should be directed to [email protected].
"Warwick District Council will continue to share updates and information where appropriate on its website," the council said.
Prior to today's announcement, WDC had said any sale would come with strict standards on what sort of houses are to be built there.
