Local residents will be able to see steam power in action on the mainline every weekend throughout August as 'The Shakespeare Express' makes multiple trips through Warwickshire.

The express will travel from to Stratford-upon-Avon every Sunday from until 31 August, travelling through Hatton and Henley-in-Arden.

Run by Vintage Trains, the excursion will actually pass through South Warwickshire four times on each Sunday, as it makes the journey to and from Birmingham in the middle of the day.

The express will be hauled by either 7029 Clun Castle or 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe - as has been the case on previous occasions.

Excursions will start from different locations each weekend, including Leicester, Derby, Worcester and Birmingham.

Organisers said: "Boarding the train at your chosen departure station, relax in the comfort of your surroundings onboard your authentic 1960s Pullman Car as you are served a Full English Breakfast, with tea and coffee, orange juice or water.

"As you finish your breakfast, enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the historic steam locomotive hauling your train as it brings you closer to Stratford-upon-Avon.

"At Stratford, passengers will have several hours with which to explore the historic market town and birthplace of William Shakespeare.

"There is plenty to see and do, whether that’s a walking or hop-on hop-off bus tour of the town, the Butterfly Farm or explore the picturesque riverside. Shakespeare Express passengers can also access 20% off Shakespeare’s Birthplace when booking tickets for this attraction online with our exclusive link (this will be sent with your final confirmation email).

"In the late afternoon you will begin your return journey, while watching the Warwickshire countryside pass by your window your Afternoon Tea will be served at your seat with tea and coffee. Those wishing to purchase additional drinks including alcohol can do so from their server."

Timings for the specials are regular published in advance on the website Railway Herald.
