The local Labour Party has announced further details of its candidates standing in the local town and district council elections this May.

Residents will take to the polls on Thursday, May 4, to vote in councillors for Warwick District Council and Kenilworth Town Council.

For the latter, 17 representatives will be elected across five wards. Meanwhile nine councillors will represent the town on the district council.

Labour has put forward four candidates, some of whom are standing in both elections.

Here are the details for all the Labour candidates for Warwick District Council:

Abbey & Arden

Hannah Deacon is the solo Labour candidate in the Abbey & Arden ward, hoping to become a councillor for the first time.

Having lived in Kenilworth for 14 years, she says she has seen it grow into a "great family town".

When asked about her priorities as a prospective councillor, she explained: "Our town has grown so much in the last few years.

"We need to ensure that we have the infrastructure in place to service our growing town to make sure we continue to have a town that works for the people who live here. We need more transparency when public funds are spent, this is something which I know is also very important to the people who live here.

"Councillors must build trust with the people of Kenilworth and this can only be achieved with transparency with the work we do. We need to ensure we are focusing on the issues that really matter to the people that live in Kenilworth and listening to how we can improve their lives."

Park Hill

Jeremy Eastaugh is representing the Labour Group in Park Hill.

He said the major issues facing the district are for "sensible planning decisions to be made" and says transport infrastructure needs to be "fit for a sustainable green future".

He added: "I am appalled at the way major developments have been made without provision for the inevitable increases in road traffic.

"It seems extraordinary that there are no pavements around the new school and that 1,400 new homes will bring 2,800 cars to our residential streets.

"I'd also like to see more development of two and three bedroomed houses, not everyone can afford a million pound plus double garaged executive home."

St John's

Labour has put forward Peter Shiels in the third WDC ward.

He said: "I am standing for election because it is vital that Kenilworth has representation at district level which is committed to representing the town's interests.

"This is clearly not the case at present.

"The major issues facing the district are responding strategically to the climate emergency, protecting people from the impact of government cuts to council budgets, and the long-term future of local government in the county."

Here are the details for all the Labour candidates for Kenilworth Town Council:

Kenilworth Abbey

Hannah Deacon is also hoping to buck the trend of the current Kenilworth Town Council, which has no Labour representatives.

She says she is "very keen to represent the people of Kenilworth, so I can advocate for them and their wishes for the town".

Hannah added: "It is important that people who live here feel they have a seat at the table and through me they will."

Kenilworth Borrowell

The Labour group has not put forward a candidate for Kenilworth Borrowell.

Kenilworth Dalehouse

The Labour group has not put forward a candidate for Kenilworth Dalehouse.

Kenilworth Park Hill

Andrew Roadnight is also hoping to boost Labour's representation at KTC.

He explained: "I am standing because I would like the opportunity to show how Labour's fresh ideas and dynamic approach can benefit the people of Kenilworth.

"The major issues facing Kenilworth in the next few years are the climate emergency, the problems associated with the expansion of the town, and the impact of the cost of living crisis."

Kenilworth St. John`s

Jeremy Eastaugh is standing for election to both councils, saying he wants to "put forward a common sense view".
