A Kenilworth upcycling furniture shop is set to close this month, but it is not the end for the business.

Funk It Up on Warwick Road is set to close on Saturday 30 August for the final time after a decade in the town centre.

Explaining the reason for the closure, owner Sharon Sword told Nub News: "The footfall has definitely fallen and I can only be in the shop Saturday and Sunday as I still work full time.

"Some weekends I haven't had anyone in at all.

"There are a lot of overheads and when you add it all together, it just isn't worth it."

She added: "It was okay when the shop was paying for itself, but just recently, although I've still been getting commissions and that, it doesn't always pay for itself."

While the shop will close at the end of the month, Sharon will still be taking commissions, with customers able to contact her online or via email at: [email protected].

Despite the "mixed feelings" of closing the shop front this summer, Sharon will actually be returning to how she originally ran the businesses.

"It started off, it is just a hobby," she explained.

"I was looking for some storage space at the time and the landlord said I could use the shop for that.

"Then I asked if I could start putting things to sell - he said, 'if I was you, I'd do it'.

"And it just really started from there."

Everything at Funk It Up has been priced to clear in store, with Sharon saying "it is going".

But with the business to be running only on commissions from now on, Sharon said it was the social side of things she will miss the most.

"I definitely have mixed feelings," she said.

"I have worked seven days a week for god knows how long. It was an extension of my hobby.

"I shall miss it and I shall miss the days where people come in socially.

"Quite often there are people coming in to have a coffee with me, and I have met a lot of people.

"The people in Kenilworth have always been very kind, donating items to be refurbished and giving me commissions."
