Town councillors said they would have liked to give more to Citizens Advice South Warwickshire after approving a £2,600 grant to the charity.

Kenilworth Town Council's general finance and services committee approved the grant at its most recent meeting, with the money set to help support the 100 people across the town that use the charity's services.

Cllr Michael Coker said: "I think sometimes we forget that there are some areas of Kenilworth that are more deprived than anywhere else in the district.

"We think of ourselves as being reasonably well off, and the majority of people are, but there are patches that need support."

Cllr Alix Dearing added: "£2,600 seems very low - personally I would like to see more going to them."

Citizens Advice South Warwickshire offers free advice and signposting to people across Kenilworth.

The funding application submitted to Kenilworth Town Council said: "We wish to maintain accessibility and visibility to our much needed advice services for Kenilworth residents by remaining at our established venue or at an alternative venue in Kenilworth (if this is not possible).

"Our services remain free, independent and impartial and we would provide advice, information, signposting and referrals as appropriate to each enquiry."

With councillors unanimously supporting the application Cllr Richard Dickson stressed it was more important than ever to maintain free support for residents.

"I am very conscious that now more than ever with the cost of living crisis that people are facing, people know that this organisation is there and that we support this organisation," he said.

"If the amount they had been asking for had been much higher I still would have looked sympathetically at it."
