Students at Kenilworth School received their "exceptional" A-Level results this morning (August 17).

Around 12 per cent of grades were at A* with nine students achieving three or more straight A* grades in all their subjects - including one who received a staggering five of the top grade.

The percentage of grades at A* to A was 31 per cent and A* to B was 65 per cent.

Head teacher Hayden Abbott praised all students for their results.

"Congratulations are due to all students who deserve this success," he said.

"Every student achieved passes in two or more subjects.

"It is particularly noteworthy that these leavers have performed exceptionally well, given that they had no experience of sitting formal GCSEs two years ago at the time of the pandemic.

"Teachers and other staff have supported students exceptionally well in school over the years, making up for lost learning time during the years of disruption.

"I am very proud of our students and wish them well for the future as they progress to their chosen universities or apprenticeships."

The school said the results were similar to the external A Level exam results before the pandemic, with the average grade for A level being 'B'.

Twenty-three percent of students got grades AAB and above, including two facilitating subjects.

Nationally the proportion of A or A* grades is 27.2 per cent which is down from a peak of 44.4 per cent during the pandemic.

UCAS said 79 per cent of students received a place at their first choice university.
