Kenilworth Repair Café celebrates major milestone
Volunteers, councillors and locals joined together on Saturday (August 19) to mark the second anniversary of the Kenilworth Repair Café.
Hosted at Abbey Hill United Reform Church, the initiative was first launched in August 2021 after receiving funding from Warwickshire County Council.
Ever since, a team of dedicated volunteers has headed to the church on a monthly basis to lend their skills and help fix everyday items for local residents, which would otherwise be thrown away.
Event organiser Sharon Maxted invited Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Alix Dearing down to Saturday's repair café where cake from Milk and Mocha was enjoyed by those in attendance.
Among the items fixed were garden tools, electricals and even the mayoral chains.
Speaking at the event Cllr Dearing said: "It's a huge pleasure to be here this afternoon on the repair café's second anniversary.
"I was here in 2021 at the launch and had no doubts that it would be a success with Sharon at the helm and with such a dedicated and knowledgeable group of volunteers.
"It's been incredible to see the range of skills the volunteers have; they keep the skills alive that so many of us have lost with planned obsolescence in our disposable society.
"And it's also a sociable and fun event for everyone."
The next repair café will be held on Saturday 16 September.
