A Kenilworth singer-songwriter has won her first award, based on her "unwavering" support of the local community.

Nominated by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Introducing, Miss Terious received a local hero award at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2022 last week.

The prize recognised 31 different artists and venues across the UK for their work in bringing people "closer together within their community, using their voice(s) to make lasting change, provide support, expertise or funds".

And former ballet dancer Miss Terious says she thinks she was nominated on the back of her song 'Enough' which is based on her own experiences of domestic violence.

"I have been really open and honest about it, bringing people together and being a voice for women really," she told Nub News.

"The music was an escape from that situation and then a chance to make something to help other people talk about it.

"People might look at me and think that I haven't been through something that awful, but I have, and it could happen to anyone so that is while I wrote it."

Miss Terious, who was forced to retire from ballet due to an injury two years ago, said she also used her music to channel her energy after she could no longer dance.

And rapper said the award was a complete surprise and was helping her overcome some of her own insecurities.

"I had no idea that I had even been nominated before I got the email to tell me that I had won. So it was a massive surprise to me," she said.

She added: "I cried because I was really surprised.

" It was a shock and I am still processing it if I am honest.

"It felt really good because it felt like the little girl inside of me who never thought she could do music, I felt like I had made her proud."

As well as performing under the stage name Miss Terious, the singer also wears a mask during her performances which she says helps her to feel more relaxed on stage.

"I used to get a lot of anxiety about people knowing who I was," she explained.

"Within the ballet community everywhere I went everyone knew who I was and I didn't like that.

"So for me it was nice to not have any anxiety, go out with the mask and do what I want and not care because people don't know who I am."

Miss Terious regularly plays at Lil Greens, Abbey End, on Sunday nights and will be performing at the Copper House Club on the 29 October.
