A Kenilworth pub has been given the go-ahead to keep its outside seating for another 12 months.

The Abbey Field has has been granted a fresh pavement licence by Warwick District Council (WDC), meaning it can keep its tables and chairs outside the restaurant until next September.

The High Street eatery already had seating for up to 14 people to the front of the premises, but needed permission from the local authority to keep them there as its previous licence was close to running out.

Plans, signed off by WDC last week, show the tables will be permitted for use from 11am to 11pm seven days per week outside the Chef & Brewer establishment.

After Kenilworth Nub News published details of the application in August, readers were quick to voice their support for the plans.

One Facebook user wrote: "Keep the seating! This is a wonderful pub, and the council should be doing everything possible to help this business.

"How many pubs are closing every day?!"

While another added: "It is lovely to see people sitting outside when our British weather allows.

"The seating outside this pub in the older part of Kenilworth does not affect pedestrian foot path.

"Kenilworth is a lovely place to visit please let locals and visitors enjoy it."

The four tables will take up just 2.5 metres of the pavement, leaving almost double that for pedestrians to walk past.

New laws on pavement licences were brought into effect in the summer of 2020 to make it easier for businesses to apply for permission to put furniture outside during the pandemic.
