Here are the biggest Kenilworth planning stories from the past week.

Wetherspoon Wins Over Council

Amended plans to turn a former Poundland into a pub have been seen as a major improvement by members of Kenilworth Town Council.

KTC's planning committee had objected to a previous application from Wetherspoon, with councillors raising concerns about the impact the proposed beer garden would have on neighbours.

Having withdrawn the original application in September, Wetherspoon submitted a fresh scheme this week having made changes to the design of the outdoor seating area and access for deliveries.

And town councillors, who said they generally supported the idea of the pub giant opening a branch in the town, found the fresh scheme more acceptable and chose not to object on the second time around.

School as Temporary Community Centre

Residents on a huge new Kenilworth development will have community facilities from next September – but they will be in a school rather than in a purpose-built centre.

More than 500 homes are being built on former green belt land to the east of the town, a project that prompted considerable opposition from those living nearby and the town council.

And at this week's full council meeting of Warwick District Council, leader Cllr Andrew Day said the land earmarked for the new building would not be available until nearly two-thirds of the houses were occupied.

Theatre Funding

A Kenilworth theatre has been awarded a further £35,000 towards its redevelopment project as the building costs continue to rise.

The Talisman Theatre had already been awarded £100,000 by Kenilworth Town Council to be put towards stage one of its extension plans.

The project will eventually see a two-storey extension, a new studio and lift built for the Barrow Road venue, and was originally expected to cost £1.3million.
