Kenilworth planning roundup: trees cut back, new bridge and police HQ

Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Trees to be Cut Back
Council planners have given the go-ahead to plans to cut back a number of trees to make way for an improved public footpath to Kenilworth Castle.
The footpath will connect to the proposed new puffin crossing on Castle Road which Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) has been working towards.
After a number of sites were assessed, the crossing is hoped to be installed to the south of the ford, with English Heritage - which runs the castle - working to continue the link from Castle Road to the castle itself.
Polica HQ Plans
Councillors will next week decide on plans to double the number of parking spaces and improve security at Warwickshire Police’s Leek Wootton headquarters.
The force has applied for planning permission for a series of works at Woodside House with Warwick District Council’s planning committee due to discuss the application on Tuesday (29 July).
If approved, the plans would see another 362 spaces added, saying it will help alleviate a number of issues on site.
New Bridge
Council planners have signed off on plans for a huge footbridge to carry a public right of way over the HS2 line have been revealed.
The new bridge - which would span 76 metres - will ultimately return K29 close to its original line and carry the footpath over the railway cutting to the edge of Kenilworth.
Also known as Centenary Way, the link has been diverted since 2023 as the HS2 line is built.
The footpath was diverted around New Kingswood Farm while construction between Dalehouse Lane and the A46 progressed.
