Kenilworth planning roundup: school's future, pub's future and housing delays

Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

Housing Delays

Construction has "stalled" at a new Kenilworth housing estate due to problems with 'affordable' homes, a developer has said.

Persimmon Homes says it has not found an affordable housing provider for phase two of its major estate off Leamington Road.

The developer wants to change the approved mix of affordable homes in order to attract a new partner.

Pub's Future Uncertain

Council planners have decided to delay their decision on whether to allow an already built bar area and big screen at a village pub.

Councillors are set to visit the Brickmakers Arms in Balsall Common before giving their final verdict early next year.

The saga began after the Station Road pub put up a two metre perimeter fencing at the front, created an outdoor bar area in the beer garden and also put up a big screen on a raised platform.

School's Future?

A planning application has now been submitted to demolish the former Kenilworth School site at Leyes Lane and replace it with 224 homes.

The application has been submitted by Homes England and follows a recent public consultation.

If approved the development would see 40 per cent of the homes designated as affordable.

The scheme also includes an 'extra care' facility with 75 bedrooms for the elderly.
