Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

New Industrial Estate

Six major new industrial buildings could be built next to a new housing estate in Kenilworth if plans are signed off by Warwick District Council (WDC).

Barwood Development Securities Ltd has applied for planning permission for the development along Leamington Road, on the Land at Thickthorn.

When planning permission for the neighbouring Kenilworth Gate housing estate - including 550 homes and a primary school - was approved in 2021, the scheme also included a major piece of 'employment land'.

New Housing Sites

Three sites around Kenilworth have been put into a final shortlist of possible new housing sites as the local councils look to plan where 30,000 new homes will be built in South Warwickshire.

Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon District Councils are set to move to the next stage of the new South Warwickshire Local Plan (SWLP) which will oversee the next 25 years of development in the area.

After locals put forward some 736 potential new housing sites, the local authorities have now whittled these down to 36 potential spots - 12 of which could see new settlements created.

Immediately around Kenilworth, land around the University of Warwick, Stoneleigh, Coventry Airport and Rouncil Lane have all been included in the shortlist.

5G Mast

Multiple objections have been made to fresh plans to build a 5G mast next to a new Kenilworth housing estate.

Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Ltd has already seen a previous application for the pole refused by Warwick District Council (WDC) as it looks to relocate its existing structure at Kenilworth Wardens on Glasshouse Lane.

The company is now looking for permission for the 20-metre high monopole on a verge along Leamington Road near to Charles Church's new Kenilworth Gate estate.

But the plans have already been met by several complaints.
