Kenilworth planning roundup: HS2, £700m investment and Woodside for sale?
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
HS2 (Again)
HS2 has submitted designs for a major new building in Burton Green which it says will be "crucial" in helping maintain the new railway line.
Plans show the 'Burton Green Portal Building' will be positioned near the eastern end of the green tunnel, which is currently being built.
It will be 67 metres long, 20 metres wide and 8.8 metres tall, and will house "mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems".
University of Warwick
The University of Warwick has unveiled £700 million plans to create a new social sciences and STEM facility on campus.
The largest single investment in its facilities in the university's 60-year history will see new "state-of-the-art" research and education programmes launched.
Named the 'Connect Programme' the investment will focus on the Social Sciences and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and will see the new facilities built on car park on the Westwood Campus.
Woodside For Sale?
The developer behind unpopular plans to demolish the Woodside Hotel has said there are no updates on the project, amidst rumours it is planning to sell the land.
Having previously been refused permission to replace the former manor house with more homes, Vistry was given the green light for a fresh application to flatten and build on the site earlier this year.
Councillors gave the go-ahead for a block of flats and 43 houses "through gritted teeth" in April, following multiple objections from locals and Kenilworth Town Council.
Since then there has been little sign of work on site, and Kenilworth Nub News has been contacted by neighbours claiming the land is being sold to another developer.
