Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

Kilometre Cutting

Designs for a kilometre-long HS2 cutting on the edge of Kenilworth have been put forward to the district council for approval.

The high speed rail developer has asked for sign off on the plans for Kenilworth Cutting, which will run from the A429 Kenilworth Road to Dalehouse Lane.

Plans submitted at the end of August show the cutting will be as much as 11.4m deep in places.

Housing Push Back

Highways officers have raised concerns and more objections have been made to plans for 180 new homes in Kenilworth.

The application from Richborough Estates for Rouncil Lane has been met with opposition from locals as well as town councillors who said the town is "straining at the seams".

And now, highways officers from Warwickshire County Council have said several issues need to be addressed before the plans can move forward.

An objection was submitted to the application at the end of July, saying the developer needed to give more thought to the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

School's Future

Councillors will next week decide whether to press forward with the demolition of the former Kenilworth School site on Rouncil Lane, before a buyer is found.

Warwick District Council bought the building as part of the school's move to Glasshouse Lane, and the site has sat empty since late 2023.

While it is earmarked for more houses, the council is yet to secure a buyer to develop the site.

A report set to be debated at next week's cabinet meeting has indicated council officers are considering flattening the buildings to make it easier for the local authority to sell it
