A Kenilworth business is entering an exciting new chapter, having moved into larger premises to accommodate its growing team, a new clinic and storage space for the equipment and kits used nationwide.

But for the founder of the company, Jayne Atkins, Kenilworth isn't simply where her business, Phlebotomy Services Ltd, is based – it is home.

The company recently moved from The Brickyard on Queens Road to larger premises at Park House on Park Road.

Speaking about the move Jayne shared: "We were bursting at the seams, but we always wanted to stay in Kenilworth. This is where I'm from, this is where my family is and where the business started."

Jayne has lived in Kenilworth all her life, attending local schools and becoming involved in the community from a young age through Scouts and Guides, the Kenilworth Gang Show and, later, 15 years as a Special Police Constable with Warwickshire Police.

Her healthcare career began in hospital phlebotomy before she spent a further 15 years working at a local GP surgery. It was there that she developed a particular passion for helping patients who struggled with blood tests because of needle phobia, anxiety or difficult veins.

Patients would often ask Jayne if they could be seen at home. It got her thinking – perhaps there was a need for a more personal and flexible service outside the surgery.

So Jayne began looking into what would be involved in setting up her own service. She researched insurance requirements, bought her own equipment and, around 17 years ago, established Phlebotomy Services Ltd.

What began as a small local service has grown into a national CQC-registered phlebotomy provider, with more than 120 experienced phlebotomists delivering services across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Today, the company works with private and NHS patients, businesses, occupational health programmes, sports and fitness services, clinical research and donor services.

One of the partnerships Jayne is particularly proud of is with The Anthony Nolan Trust, working alongside their teams to provide phlebotomy services for their donors. These donors give their time and blood as part of a process that can ultimately help provide life-saving stem cells for people in need of a transplant.

"It's a privilege to work alongside Anthony Nolan and to play a small part in something that can make such a life-changing difference to someone else," shared Jayne.

Despite that growth, Jayne has always been determined to keep the business in Kenilworth.

For Jayne, the growth of the business is something she is incredibly proud of, but she is the first to acknowledge that she couldn't have done it without the supportive team around her.

She added: "You are nothing without the team that supports you. We've grown together over the years, and I genuinely couldn't have done it without them."

Phlebotomy Services Ltd will be holding an open day at its new premises on Saturday 26 September, from 11am to 3pm.

The event is open to the public and will provide a chance to look around the new premises, meet Jayne and the team, and find out more about the business. Clients, business partners, friends and family will also be joining on the day to celebrate this exciting new chapter for the company.
