Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust have offered clarity on the relocation of the Walter Richie 'Growth' Sculpture following speculation about the new home of the sculpture amid the relocation of Kenilworth School & Sixth Form.

Walter Richie's 'Growth' sculpture, which is currently on display at Kenilworth School's Leyes Lane site, was created in 1965.

It depicts a cell dividing and multiplying, next to a galloping horse, music from Beethoven's Missa Solemnis and a man holding a joystick.

Originally given to the then Abbey School, the current leadership team does not wish to take the sculpture to the new school on Glasshouse Lane.

Kenilworth School & Sixth Form, which is re-locating to its new site on Glasshouse Lane in September 2023, wish to confirm it has made no final decision about the Walter Ritchie 'Growth' Sculpture – currently located above the upper school entrance at the Leyes Lane site.

The School and Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust (KMAT) recognise the significance of the sculpture and are keen to ensure it has an appropriate home when the site in Leyes Lane is demolished and is therefore currently exploring a number of options.

The Local Governing Board of the School and the KMAT Trustees (many of whom are local residents) appreciate the sensitivities around the sculpture in terms of its value and provenance as well as its significance both to the town and to alumni of the school.

Commenting on the new school project Shirley Whiting (Chair of KMAT Trustees) and Hayden Abbott (Executive Headteacher KMAT) commented: "The team behind the new build of Kenilworth School & Sixth Form has achieved an amazing feat in delivering a brand new school for the students of Kenilworth – the local community should be proud of what will be a huge benefit to the town and young people of Kenilworth for years to come."
