Kenilworth Labour Party has called on the town council to do what it can to support local voluntary and community organisations that provide essential support to vulnerable residents.

In an open letter to the leader of Kenilworth Town Council Cllr James Kennedy, KLP has urged the council to examine how it can provide financial support to organisations to help them meet their increased energy and food costs.

Andrew Roadnight, vice-chair of Kenilworth Labour Party, said: "Kenilworth's voluntary and charitable organisations provide a great service to the community, especially for the most vulnerable.

"They offer a warm place for people to meet, they provide meals and social activities, and they benefit a significant number of people.

"Earlier this year Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action reported that the numbers of people seeking help would increase significantly.

"This was before the huge rise in the costs of energy and food, which will mean more people seeking a warm place for shelter and a hot meal."

The Labour group - which does not hold any seats on the town council - has called on it to use its cash reserves to provide much needed help to voluntary organisations.

Council leader Cllr Kennedy said: "We welcome the motion from Labour and look forward to discussing the issue at our next full council meeting, in January."
