Kenilworth fire crews were called to help deal with a fire at a block of flats in Leamington Spa yesterday morning (September 16).

At 1.22am the on-call crew was mobilised to the incident which had started in the bin store and then spread into the roof of the low-rise block of apartments.

A gas main became involved in fire during the incident and firefighters originally thought people were trapped in the building.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and main jets to extinguish the fire. The turntable ladder from Leamington was also used to access parts of the roof.

Cooling of surrounding areas took place whilst the gas board isolated the supply.

There were no injuries at this incident.

Kenilworth crews returned to the station just after 5am.
