Fire crews were called to an explosion at a building on Cromwell Lane this morning (January 10), thought to be caused by a gas leak.

Firefighters from Kenilworth and Canley stations rushed to the Burton Green property at around 11am.

While the fire had been contained before crews arrived, they then used thermal imaging cameras to identify the cause.

"We were mobilised just after 11 o'clock this morning along with a crew from Canley Fire Station to reports of an explosion in a building in Burton Green," a Kenilworth Fire Station spokesperson said.

"On our arrival a small fire had been extinguished by members of staff. We used thermal image cameras and gas monitoring equipment to look at determining a cause.

"It is believed a gas leak in a ceiling void caused the small explosion after finding an ignition source in the kitchen. We isolated the gas supply to the property and left advice with the building management to contact a gas engineer before turning back on the supply."
