Kenilworth firefighters called to blaze at lorry park

Kenilworth firefighters were called to an overnight blaze at an industrial site in Warwickshire this weekend.

Local crews were rushed to the scene at in Polesworth after National Tyre Recovery HGV's and tyres were set alight on Friday (October 18) night.

The Environmental Agency told neighbours to keep their windows closed as "large plumes of acrid smoke filled the night sky" around Kisses Barn Lane.

A Kenilworth Fire Station statement said: "A busy weekend for crews across Warwickshire dealing with a fire in Warton, near Polesworth.

"The incident involved a number of HGV's and tyres on fire. Five pumps, a Water Carrier and the Command Support Unit were in attendance at its height.

"Kenilworth crew were alerted just after 8pm on Friday night to standby at Coleshill whilst crews from North Warwickshire and Staffordshire attended the fire in Polesworth.

"Kenilworth crew later on, attended the incident as a relief crew, returning to station around 6am.

"Our water carrier was then mobilised at 9:15am on Saturday morning whilst operations to damp down continued."
