No we have not made this up. Yes this is Kenilworth and not Pontypandy. And yes, we do realise how funny this is!

Kenilworth has finally fulfilled a much-trodden trope of sleepy-town local news as a local firefighter has rescued a kitten stuck in a tree.

Last Thursday (April 1) local firefighter Alison Insley was on hand to help rescue nine month old kitten Kleo who had been stuck overnight and could not be coaxed down by his owners, Phil and Helen.

Having contacted the RSPCA and been told that they would not come out unless the cat was stuck for 48 hours, Phil switched on the town's bat signal, alerting superhero Alison to come and save the day.

Owners Phil and Helen said: "After spending all night and most of the morning trying to get Kleo out of the tree, Alison came to the rescue, thank you very much!"

Having finished her training shift at Kenilworth Fire Station, superhero Alison was able to don her cape, and fly round to Blackthorn Road and shoot up the tree to rescue Kleo.

With more action and spectacle than George Clooney's 1997 'Batman & Robin' Alison "went into superhero mode, went over the fence, climbed the tree and brought young Kleo down to safety and back to solid ground," she says.

"I was really happy to have been successful in my community efforts, and to help a neighbour.

"I was buzzing all day afterwards...I was definitely the cat that got the cream!"

Having risked certain death to rescue Kleo, a presentation of the keys to the town is surely in the offing for Alison any day now.

Whilst she waits for personal thanks from the Prime Minister, Alison will be returning to her civvies next month as she cycles 200 miles across Warwickshire to visit every fire station in the county to raise money for UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund and The Fire Fighters Charity.

Heroes really do walk among us.
