A Kenilworth dog owner has thanked a stranger for going "above and beyond" to help rescue her beloved pet.

Kate Warnaby told Nub News a passer-by - called Ashley - had waded into Finham Brook on Sunday (March 17) morning to help pull out Spaniel Hector who could not get out.

Having left her home on School Lane via the back gate, Kate said Hector got stuck in the brook near the allotments, about 20 meters along from the new houses.

"I would really like it if you could say a huge thank you to Ashley," she said.

"I don't know anymore about him, but he saved my dog who had gone into the brook on Sunday morning and couldn't get out.

"Ashley promptly went into the brook, which was up to his waist nearly and was very fast flowing to fish him out!

"He was a true hero and I am so very grateful to him and would like to say thank you."

Having only managed to get his first name, Kate is now hoping to get in touch with "real hero" Ashley to be able to take him something to say thank you.

"He was very gracious and just said 'it was fine'," she added.
