Kenilworth Green Scheme to provide free parking permits for electric vehicles

Electric vehicle owners in Kenilworth will now be able to apply for a free parking permit from the town council.

The permit scheme is being run in conjunction with Warwickshire County Council, and will provide free parking for all electric vehicles in council-run car parks across the district, all day, every day.

The scheme coincides with the council's reintroduction of parking charges in car parks in the town centre from the beginning of August.

The council had originally revoked all charges to assist key workers and support local business during the lockdown, but as our 'new normal' continues, these privileges have been revoked in order to ensure fairer use of parking near the town centre.

Permits can be obtained by emailing [email protected] with your name, address (including postcode), vehicle registration, make and model. More information can be found on the Kenilworth Council, and Warwick District Council websites respectively.

Whilst there are currently no council-operated charging points in the town centre – the closest being in Leamington Spa – there are some private ones available. Further, the council has indicated that it is considering the possibility of bringing such facilities to the town centre.

Councillor Moira-Ann Granger said "this new green scheme we are trialling, is just one of the steps we are taking to help improve air quality in our town centres and encourage increased ownership of electric vehicles."
