St John's Budgens in Kenilworth has been named as one of the top 100 independent retailers in the UK and Ireland for the seventh year in a row.

The Roseland Road store has received the award from the Independent Achievers Academy (IAA) and will go to yet another awards night later this year.

A 'rank' within the top 100 is not given at this stage. Instead each of the 100 will be entered into smaller categories for the awards, such as marketing and social media engagement.

The Kenilworth Budgens is run by owner Sukhi Sidhu and her husband, operations manager Avtar 'Sid' Sidhu.

Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News Sid said: "For me it is about constantly raising my game. I am a sponge and you can get great nuggets of information or best practice from other businesses, and I always want to use those to help us improve.

"We are not perfect, and we never will be, but it is that willingness to keep learning, keep striving forwards and improving, and that customer-first approach really."

To be in contention for the top 100, retailers have to apply and then provide data and photographs, complete a telephone interview, and then be assessed in-store by an assessor.

When asked whether the seventh award feels as good as the first, Sid said: "It has given me probably more joy than any of the others. Obviously the first one was great because you feel like you're part of a club and you're on the right path.

"But having this, especially after the year that we have been through, the past 12 months have been very challenging in many different ways, not only physically but also mentally.

"So coming through that and still doing well, it means a lot."
