A Kenilworth fish and chip shop is still closed a year after a devastating fire forced it to shut.

Emergency services were called to Friends Kenilworth at midday on Friday 21 April 2023 after a blaze had broken out at the Warwick Road business.

The road was closed for most of the afternoon as four fire engines and crews dealt with the incident.

Nobody was injured during the incident, and the fire was not treated as suspicious.

But the blaze - which started in the kitchen - destroyed most of the downstairs of the business, with many of the windows smashing and having to be boarded up.

The windows were replaced later on in 2023, and some of the damage to the inside of the shop repaired. But it shows little sign of reopening any time soon.

On the day of the incident traffic had to be diverted along Waverley Road, until Warwick Road reopened at around 5pm - some five hours after Warwickshire Fire and Rescue was first called.

Locals were kept away from the scene at the time and crews returned to the scene overnight to monitor the situation.

Kenilworth Nub News has approached Friends Kenilworth for comment.
