Kenilworth bus users are set to face disruption and changes over the coming weeks as the A46 closes for HS2 works.

The dual carriageway will be shut between Kenilworth and Coventry from tonight (April 11) until May 1 as the new HS2 bridge is slid into place.

Bus operators have advised there will be a number of changes to local services.

The X17 will operate its usual route through Warwick, Leamington, Kenilworth and Coventry but "is likely to be subject to delay".

"We won't know the extent of the delays until they occur each day as we don't yet know how displaced traffic will react and the volumes that will take the diversionary routes," the Stagecoach website said.

"In particular the timetable has been revised on a Sunday so please check times for your bus accordingly."

The U1 will run via Kenilworth to and from the University of Warwick to a revised timetable.

Apart from some early morning and evening journeys, all other journeys on the U1 will run only between Leamington town centre and the University of Warwick.

A half-hourly shuttle bus will run between Leamington town centre and Warwick Gates.

Service U2 will run to the existing frequency on university term dates but to a revised timetable to take into account the diversion via Kenilworth.

Service X18 and X18A will also run via Kenilworth and the A429 but will not be serving London Road into Coventry as a result, or New Union Street in Coventry city centre.

"Additional running time has been inserted into these services in order to cover the additional journey time of the diversion as well as traffic delays as far as we can reasonably expect at this time," the website statement continued.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience the delays and diversions to bus services this closure will cause," the statement continued.

"We will be liaising with the contractors to get their assistance in ensuring buses get through the diversions as swiftly as possible so please do bear with us."
