New "once in a generation" funding will see £11.9 million invested in community mental health services in Coventry and Warwickshire over the next three years.

The money, from NHS England, will help to provide neighbourhood level support for people with severe and ongoing mental health illnesses.

Coventry and Warwickshire Health and Care Partnership will use the money to create a new community-based service which will be 'trauma informed throughout', shifting the focus from 'what's wrong with me' towards 'what's happened to me'.

There will be a new focus on people with the diagnosis of personality disorder, eating disorders and community rehabilitation.

Mental health care will be delivered by health partners, local authorities, and voluntary and community sector organisations (VCSE).

The new service will include:

- Access to talking therapies.

- Improved physical health care.

- Employment support.

- Support for self-harm and co-existing substance use.

A partnership spokesperson said: "This is a once in a generation opportunity to boldly transform our community mental health services.

"Our commitment is to provide an enhanced service which is easily accessible, providing integrated and seamless care and support for people experiencing mental distress."
