"Unavoidable" closures at recycling centres in Kenilworth and Stratford-upon-Avon will start next week, Warwickshire County Council has announced.

Burton Farm and Cherry Orchard will shut on Monday 10 March for maintenance.

The Cherry Orchard site in Kenilworth will be shut for up to three days for "vital site improvement works", including a replacement site office and welfare facilities.

The Burton Farm site on the edge of Stratford will be shut for up to two weeks to allow for "essential repairs" to the mains water supply.

Leaks will be fixed and the mains water supply reinstated and drainage improved to reduce the chance of unexpected future closures due to flooding.

The council said works have been planned for early March because the typical visitor numbers at each site tend to be lower and there are longer daylight hours at this time of year to help the work progress quickly.

Cllr Heather Timms, portfolio holder for environment, climate and culture, said: "The essential maintenance works needed at Burton Farm and Cherry Orchard are unavoidable, however, I would like to extend apologies from the council to anyone whose plans to book to visit the recycling centres will need to be altered as a result.

"Stratford district and Warwick district residents have made tremendous progress reusing, recycling and composting their household waste and we hope to see these positive behaviours continue despite a temporary longer journey to one of Warwickshire's other recycling centres at Princes Drive in Leamington Spa, Shipston or Wellesbourne."
