June update on A46 Stoneleigh Junction works - family of birds impacts work
By James Smith 14th Jun 2026
The June update for the Stoneleigh Junction A46 works has been released by Warwickshire County Council (WCC).
Originally due to be finished in the summer 2022, work resumed on site at the start of 2026.
The project - which is now set to cost considerably more than the £38 million originally approved - is due for completion in 2027.
The local authority has revealed a family of nesting birds moved into the works area around the A46.
"We followed guidance from our ecology team and installed an exclusion zone around the nest to avoid disturbing them," WCC said.
"The birds have now left their nest and those works that may have disturbed them have recommenced."
The latest update continued: "The site team is working towards the erection of the formwork and steel reinforcement for the four lower (and largest) wingwall stems.
"We are making good headway towards our pour date in July, which includes preparatory works such as:
- 6N infill material to the tops of the lower bases and around the upper bases, including NDM testing every layer,
- installation of the back of wall drainage
- waterproofing of buried concrete.
Closures for the Stoneleigh Road bridge have also been announced by the council.
Others have been scheduled for:
- 26 June and 29 June 2026
- 3 July and 6 July 2026
- 25 July and 26 July 2026
These closures are in order to "safely carry out essential works associated with the scheme".
