"Apologies if you were delayed on the M40 Southbound [on Tuesday] we attended a four vehicle Injury collision just south of Junction 13," a police statement said.

"It took ourselves and National Highways some time to clear the scene and make the road safe to re open.

"Whilst en route to the incident the driver of the Mercedes Sprinter recovery Van decided he didn’t fancy waiting in the traffic like everyone else and drove down the hard shoulder blocking the way for emergency vehicles.

"The driver was nothing to do with recovery for the crashed vehicles and was just being impatient.

"The vehicle was stopped and seized after checks confirmed it hadn’t been taxed since April.
