Residents on Dalehouse Lane are likely to be impacted by HS2 works for longer than expected, councillors have warned.

Providing an update at the last Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr James Kennedy said the high-speed rail developer is planning to make wider crossing over the line than first thought so that a cycle lane can be included.

Following a visit with councillors to the site, Cllr Kennedy said: "Burton Green is an enormous development but that doesn't immediately concern us at Kenilworth Town Council but Dalehouse Lane does.

"They are looking at developing the crossing at Dalehouse Lane, the road over the HS2 line, which will require the building of a fairly massive embankment which may mean that Dalehouse Lane is closed for a significant amount of time during the construction.

"The construction period is likely to be longer than originally anticipated, I think partly because, through this council and other local groups pressing them to ensure that Dalehouse Lane crossing has a properly engineered cycle lane."

While acknowledging the inconvenience the works could cause in the short term, Cllr Kennedy added: "It does mean that we will get the sort of crossing that we need and I think residents in Dalehouse Lane will welcome that."

HS2 has already announced temporary closures to the road to install new plant crossing.

And the speed limit is also set to be reduced from 50mph to 30mph for two years.

But the developer was not able to give any firm timelines on the works.

An HS2 spokesperson said to Nub News: "We are currently finalising the design and construction method for HS2 in this area, which includes incorporating cycling provision on the realigned road.

"We have let the community know that a road closure is likely, but we haven't put a timescale on this until we finalise plans.

"We aim to keep disruption to a minimum and will provide further information once the plans have been confirmed."
