HS2 plans to divert local stream for new railway line
By James Smith 10th Apr 2026
A local stream is set to be diverted by HS2 to allow the new railway line to pass.
HS2 has submitted plans to re-route the unnamed watercourse below the line near Offchurch.
Designs put forward to Warwick District Council show a 76 metre-long culvert would be created as well as a new cutting for the stream near Hunningham Road.
Referred to as 'Ash Beds watercourse' in the application, the stream cuts across fields around the road.
"The realignment of Ash Beds watercourse will require the establishment of two culverts (one being 'Ash Beds Drop Inlet Culvert' and one to be situated under a proposed maintenance access strip)," the application said.
Plans also show there would be tree planting in the area which "focuses on the re-establishment of the woodland environment and habitat corridors that have been impacted by the removal of a section of the Ash Beds woodland to facilitate the HS2 route".
The HS2 Act decrees the works will happen, with the council only able to comment on certain elements of the design.
