A housing developer has received a mixed reaction to plans to cut back and cut down a number of trees in a Kenilworth wood.
Bovis Homes Ltd applied for permission for the tree works at Bullimore Wood in October saying there are "many trees within the woods requiring work" to make the footpaths safe.
A similar application was put forward in 2023.
Reviewing the application, Warwick District Council said works were not needed on all 43 of the trees put forward.
Instead, it said works could progress on 22 of them, but was deemed "unnecessary for the safe use of the site" for the others.
The local authority said there was no "clear identification or justification" for the rest of the works.
Works will see a mixture of trees needing to be cut down, pollarded or have their dead wood removed.
The council's report continued: "A site visit was undertaken; however, no tree tags or numbers were found, making identification of individual trees challenging.
"An objection was received referencing the habitat value of dead and declining trees. In a woodland setting, this is acknowledged and supported.
"Standing deadwood and monoliths should be retained where safe and appropriate to do so."
