The Tipperary Inn in Meer End near Kenilworth is set to close, with locals thanked for their support.

The Meer End Road pub was supposedly where former resident Harry Williams co-wrote the song 'It's a long way to Tipperary' with Jack Judge in 1912.

But in an emotional post on the pub's website, pub directors Angelo and Vlad have confirmed it will close.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the permanent closure of Tipperary Inn," they wrote.

"Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to navigate the challenges brought on by the current economic climate.

"We want to express our sincerest gratitude for your patronage and support over the years. It has been a privilege to serve you, and we are truly grateful for the memories we have shared together.

"While this chapter may be coming to a close, we will always cherish the relationships we have formed with our customers and the community. Thank you for being a part of the Tipperary family."

The pub, which was built in the late 1800s, used to be called the Plough Inn.

In 2021 it was put up for sale with Solihull-based agents Veritas Business Sales Ltd.

A final closing date has not been confirmed in the post - but Google states the business is already permanently closed.
